Sony’s ‘cheap’ 50mm solution for their E-mount full-frame mirrorless camera system – is it a cut above other inexpensive nifty-fifties?

  1. I noticed some focusing issues and trouble locking on to the subject at F6.3 and up. At F11 it would not focus easily at all. When I opened the aperture it performed a lot better. This was late afternoon about an hour before sunset so it was not bright sunlight but still daytime.

  2. You said " small mirrorless cameras should have small lenses". That's not true. Physics dictates how big a lens should be not gut feelings.

  3. Hello, please. What lens do you recommend for vlogs and sit down videos that doesn't pass 300 euros.

I think it has to have wide angle, depth of field and bokeh. Please.

  4. Pretty expensive lens compared to the Canon equivalent. How does it compare to the EF 1.8 II? Because I'm thinking of switching but some of the images I've got with the Canon are fantastic.

  5. It looks like a rebadge or remount of the Minolta 50 1.8. Sony just replaced the alpha mount to e mount. Feels like a cash grab to me.. it should have been a complete redesign.

  6. When shooting on manual do u still get auto focus Im a canon guy all my lenses say image stablization just wondering if the Sony when shooting in manual u get image stablization

  7. What do u hold it up against when saying autofocus is poor? i mean if ur not in a hurry does the quickness of autofocus really matter? 😀 Im new to cameras so just trynna figure out what to buy 😀

  8. I loved your video. There’s almost none information about “Sweet Spots” and seeing that information in your video got you a subscriber for life. Keep going awesome Chanel

  9. is the feature "touch operation focus" is work by 50mm F1.8 lense or not ? some lenses can't work by this "touch operation focus" in A7iii

  10. Other people in the comments are right, it isn't because Sony raises prices for European people, it is because you have trade agreements that raise the tax. The same is for me here in China. There is an extra VAT.

  11. I suspect that the price in the U.K is largely set by U.K. economics, taxes, tariffs, etc and not necessarily Sony's decision

  12. Bought this lens and love the image quality. My only complaint is the build. It feels like it's made with the cheapest kinds of plastic. Don't know why Sony didn't just build it similar to the 85mm 1.8 which, although cheap, feels more premium.

  13. You became my official reference regarding buying new lenses 😀
thanks alot mate, much appreciate all your practical reviews

  14. I use this lens on my a7iii a lot for portraits because of how fast it is. Only in very dark places it will focus hunt.

  15. Hy Christopher, could you make a rewiev between sony 50mm f1.8 FE vs sony 50mm f1.8 OSS, or I should buy an adapter with nikon 50mm f1.8G to see witch is better for my sony a7, please help me with that. Thank you.

  16. hi guys, need helpI wrongly bough lens for my a6000 camera, instead of SEL50F18 I bought SAL50F18,what should I do so I cant used it, thank in advance

  17. So agreed, the auto focus is unbearably slow and out of focus most of times. In a way, this is my first lens and I was forced to survive on manual focus, which is in a way, a good practice for me.
